A few minutes went by and Jack and Zero reached a dimly lit clearing.  The only light
came from Zero's glowing nose and the smoldering ashes of a dying campfire.  "Hello? is
anyone home?" asked Jack.  Zero barked questioningly.  "I need to speak with the alpha
werewolf, it's very important." There was a long pause. Then a deep, rough voice came
out of the trees, it was almost uttered as a growl.  "who is asking? What is your business
with alpha?" it asked.  "this is Jack Skellington, pumpkin king of  Halloween town.  It's
about you recent quarrel with the local vampires.  Is he available?" There was another
long pause.  Jack felt a sense of insecurity and Zero whined a little, apparently feeling the same.  A few  light growls were heard along with heavy footsteps all around.  Jack looked around calmly, yet nervous, realizing they were surrounding him.  Finally, the bushes in front of him rustled as a large, dark, almost black, brown wolf stalked forward.  Several  pairs of eyes appeared in the shadows as well.  "what is it you want, skeleton?" said the wolf, Jack assumed was the alpha.  "er, could we talk in private?" asked Jack.  "anything you can say to me, you can say in front of my pack.  We are all family.  First, how did you get past Jade? Did she let you in?" The alpha growled.  "oh, no. I was able to sneak around, I am quite skilled that way."  The alpha arched an eyebrow, then stood on his hind legs and howled.  This was answered with a softer, almost frightened howl and soft footsteps growing louder.  Before long, Jade entered the clearing, receiving a few disapproving growls from the hidden wolves.  She walked on all fours and slouched in both respect for the alpha and knowing that she's in trouble.  She strode up next to Jack, whom she now only came up to his waist, not counting the wings of coarse.  "did you  lets this... eh, pumpkin king in?" asked the alpha.  "no, Alpha, I haven't seen him all day." Jade tried to keep her voice steady, lying to Alpha was considered treason.  The alpha was about to say something when Jack spoke.  "oh, do please go easy on the girl, she is quite young.  Perhaps, if you wouldn't mind, I could take her to live in Halloween town, where she can learn to scare and detect any oncoming threats."  Jack chose his words carefully as to not offend the alpha.  The large wolf thought for a moment then nodded.  "Agreed, she will be better off." the alpha then raised his head as if suddenly remembering something.  "ah, I almost forgot.  You said something about the vampires.  What do you want with them?" Jack, seeming to have forgotten as well, recalled his reason for being here.  "ah yes, I wanted to speak to you about your rivalry with the local vampires and see if we may set up a meeting and perhaps come to a compromise.  Why, in Halloween town, we have a wolfman and 4 vampires living peacefully in the same residential area." Several angry growls and snarls sounded after he finished, only to be silenced by the alpha's raised paw.  "they don't fight? ever?" questioned the alpha.  Jack shook his head, smiling.  "no, and I hope the same harmony can be established here.  I have already received word that the vampires have agreed to the idea."  Jack lied about the last part, he hadn't received an answer from the lead, Hinterland vampire yet.  After a short back and forth conversation, the alpha finally agrees and Jack leaves with Jade.  "thank you, again, Alpha.  I'll see you soon.  oh, and I'll make sure dear Jade will be in good hands."  When they were out of sight, Jade stood on her hind legs as she walked beside Jack.  "Thank you Mr. Skellington.  How can I ever repay you?" She asked.  Jack chuckled and Zero barked happily.  "no need to repay me, you've already done enough.  and please, call me Jack."  Jade smiled, and wagged her dragon tail as she looked ahead at the small town in the distance.  'Next stop: Halloween town! Were I know I belong.' she thought.
ooh, now Jade's heading back to town with Jack, how will the citizens react? stay tuned!
